The Nihilistics were interviewed in a few fanzines – Flesh & Bones, Hard Times, Guillotine, Violin Outbreak – between 1981 and 1984. Some are accessible online, some are not. In trying to create legible versions of hard copies I own I’m finding there are no shortcuts. Forget OCR scanning: many of these zines sacrificed legibility with layouts that can only described as “Did it during my lunch break at work.” The interview in Violin Outbreak from 1981 – a lengthy, multi-page effort – holds the record for the most egregious example of “I dare you to read this!” The font is TINY, maybe 8-point, and blocks of text were pasted at random angles. I’ve spent several hours attempting to capture the text so I don’t end up typing the whole thing out. No luck (and, thankfully, you didn’t hear me sighing wistfully when I realized the interview was obviously transcribed from a recording long since disappeared). So I offer this quite easy-on-the-eyes interview from Hard Times1 fanzine. This is the Nihilistics in our endgame: the band wasn’t around much longer in its original incarnation.
